About UsSamba Edmonton was founded in 2013 as a platform to bring Brazilian dance and music to Alberta's cultural community. Led by Amanda Alvorada, Samba Edmonton teaches and performs various styles of Brazilian dance, including the samba no pé of Brazil's famous carnaval, traditional folkloric dance from the northeast of Brazil, and the Afro-Brazilian dances and rhythms that form the foundation of all samba styles.
Samba Edmonton's performances feature trained and energetic dancers and percussionists, a wide variety of colourful costumes, and interactive performances to bring a Brazilian flavour to events. We have experience performing in a large variety of venues, such as large outdoor festivals, conference centres, theatres, community fundraisers, and small private events. Our passionate instructors are delighted to share Brazil's rich cultural heritage with their students, and are happy to provide tailored classes and workshops for a variety of events. |
Amanda Alvorada

Amanda Alvorada is the co-founder and Artistic Director of Samba Edmonton, Alberta's premiere Brazilian performance company. With a primary focus on samba no pé and the Afro-Brazilian dance styles of Salvador, expect to find the classic samba step, samba de roda, axé, samba reggae, maculêlê, and movements of the Orixás from the Afro-Brazilian tradition of Candomblé in her dance classes. Amanda has been blessed with the opportunity to train with leading dance instructors in Brazil and throughout North America and to parade on multiple occasions with the passistas (professional samba dancers) of União da Ilha samba school in Rio de Janeiro’s carnival parade competition. As part of her desire to seek continual learning, Amanda travels annually to participate in intensive dance and music training sessions with both top instructors and cultural leaders from the cities of Salvador and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
